![]() In contrast to the single, limited-bandwidth surround signal generated by original Pro Logic decoding, Pro Logic II can generate 5 full-bandwidth channels (including a true stereo pair of surround signals for a heightened sense of space), plus a ".1" subwoofer channel, from any stereo source. Where original Pro Logic was designed primarily to extract the surround information matrix-encoded in Dolby Surround media, Pro Logic II enhances the listening experience of both music and movies, including 2-channel stereo content (like audio CDs and videotapes) that was not originally mixed with surround presentation in mind. Originally unveiled by Dolby in June 2001 and first appearing in consumer equipment in 2002, Dolby Pro Logic II is a dramatically improved matrix-surround system based on the principles of original Dolby Pro Logic technology.
